Himalayan balsam removal: River Foss - Huntington Road

Wednesday 4th June, 1.30-3:30pm

Join us at the York St John nature area, just along Huntington Road and help to improve the riverbanks by pulling out invasive plant, Himalayan balsam. Balsam can completely dominate an area, creating a monoculture which diminishes our all important biodiversity. By removing balsam, we are minimising it's spread across our watercourses and making room for native wildflowers and plants which, in turn, support other species like bees, butterflies and water voles.

This session will take place on the River Foss where it flows through the YSJ nature area along Huntington Road. We will meet at the footbridge directly opposite 350 Huntington Road (https://what3words.com/twist.curl.senses). We are able to use the YSJ sports centre which is about a 10 minute walk away. There are toilets here we can use and a little cafe for lunch.

The session is suitable for groups up to 20 people. If your group is bigger than this, please get in touch and we will see what we can do.

Book this session for your team by clicking below, or for more information, contact Maria Gill by emailing maria@stnicks.org.uk.

If there are any health or mobility issues within your group that may affect someone carrying out the task, please get in touch and we will see what we can do to support you as there may be alternative tasks available. However not all tasks and sites are fully accessible.
