We are St Nicks, based at St Nicks Environment Centre hidden behind residential properties in the Tang Hall area of York. We have a thriving 24 acre nature reserve that is free to explore 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Our volunteer team help us maintain and manage our reserve for the benefit of people and wildlife. We have recently expanded into managing green corridors around York. Check out Green Corridors York for more information on that project. Our Nature Based Wellbeing team run both education and mental health peer support services. Whilst our Waste & Sustainability team collect recycling, carry out waste audits and run events across the city. Together our teams work to make York a more sustainable city. The Centre is available for hire for meetings, seminars and other events. We hope you will visit us soon!
St Nicks is registered as ‘Friends of St Nicholas Fields’, charity no.1153739. We are funded by City of York Council and by a range of grants: see our funders and partners for more details. The rest of our income comes from membership, donations, fundraising events and other activities
Over nearly three decades, the Friends of St Nicholas Fields has grown from a small group of volunteers to a registered charity with a number of different areas of activity. Our Green Corridors team, with the help of volunteers, manage the nature reserve and a number of other green spaces across the city. Our Waste and Recycling team promote sustainability and collect and sort recycling from city centre residents, as well as collections for businesses and events. The Nature-Based Wellbeing team run a range of wellbeing support and activities with a focus on nature. United by our love for nature and for our city, we work together to make York a place where people value wildlife, the environment and each other equally to sustain a rich and healthy life for all.
