We are looking for a tutor to lead a new woodworking group that will form part of the Ecotherapy programme at St Nicks, helping people in recovery from mental ill health. The aim of the group is to produce items that will have a functional use on the reserve such as birdboxes, batboxes, benches, veg beds – helping participants feel that they are contributing to something bigger as well as learning woodworking skills. This would be the main focus of the project but there would also be time if some participants have an interest in developing finer carpentry skills, learning how to make tables, spoons etc or other more decorative items.
The 2hr sessions will run on Thursday mornings (10am-12pm) from 22nd February to 28th June at a rate of £20/hr for 3hrs/week (2hr session plus half hour either side for setting up, preparation etc). There is also a budget for buying wood supplies and other materials.
We are looking for someone who would be sensitive to the needs of the group – participants receive one on one mentoring from Kathy Sturgess, the Ecotherapy Manager but some awareness of mental health issues would be useful.
If you are interested in taking the group, or know of anyone else, please contact Kathy Sturgess, the Ecotherapy Manager via email@example.com or on 01904 411821 by Friday 8th February.
