scything training at Poppy Road project
scything training at Poppy Road project

Our grassland scything project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is well underway. In the last 2 weeks we have taught more than 20 people the traditional skill of mowing grass with scythes in order to help make York’s grasslands better for wildlife.

Last week’s training was for Poppy Road Poppy Project volunteers but we have lots of other opportunities scheduled for anyone to have a go at scything at various sites around York. Pop along – even just to watch or help with raking, all ages welcome!
