Planting up the Tang Hall Beck on St Nicks Nature Reserve
Planting up the Tang Hall Beck on St Nicks Nature Reserve

In 2016 we have been awarded £17,180 from the Postcode Local Trust for a habitat restoration and improvement project at Heworth Holme – a green space upstream from St Nicks along Tang Hall Beck. Once managed by a Friends of Group, our plans are to restore the wetland meadow while also improving the beck side vegetation through native planting schemes. These will attract pollinators and hopefully help nearby water vole populations to extend their range.

We will also be installing a new accessible footpath so everyone can come and enjoy the site after the improvements have been made. This project is part of a wider becks project on which we are working with City of York Council and Environment Agency. We aim to improve biodiversity and help with flood alleviation along Tang Hall and Osbaldwick Becks while also raising awareness of the importance of natural flood plains. For more information of if you would like to get involved, please contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator.
