Early days of Hiscox roof garden

Bookings for this event are now closed. The final fundraiser for the Lord Mayor’s charities will take place on the fabulous third-floor roof garden of The Hiscox Building on Peasholme Green.

Bees are the theme of the occasion and views of York are apparently quite breath-taking from the top of this iconic new building. Come and enjoy:

  • Presentation by Andrew Cutts of Urban Buzz who will explain how the project has enhanced some of York’s green spaces for the benefit of pollinators, and encouraged York residents to learn new land management skills to create more habitats suitable for pollinator species. St Nicks has worked with the Urban Buzz since the beginning and is one of the flagship sites of the project.
  • urban buzz - millenium bridg bee

St Nicks Nature Reserve Manager has helped Urban Buzz at various sites around the city, including the Millenium Bridge wildflower meadow

Ruth Horlock, who is part of a team at Hiscox volunteers who look after 120,000 bees kept in hives at the top of the office block, telling us more about urban bee-keeping. Edward Pope, Hiscox’s apiary consultant, has said, “We are keen not only to increase the bee population here in York for pollination, but also to encourage Hiscox staff to promote bee-friendly planting in their own gardens.

  • Music from the jazz quartet Sax Forte (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones).
  • Drinks (wine, beer, and soft drinks) as well as some of Hiscox’s excellent canapés to taste.
  • Lord Mayor's charities

Thanks to Lord Mayor for supporting us this year!
