One Planet York Mingle – zero waste

Wed 12 Apr 2017 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Winning Post, 127-129 Bishopthorpe Road, York, YO23 1NZ

Circular vs. Linear Economy
Like in nature, little and eventually nothing is wasted in a circular economy, which signing up to the principle of zero waste would lead to. This image compares circular and linear economy which is the current model.

The mingle is an opportunity to share ideas, catch up on plans and collaborate. The theme of this mingle is the One Planet Living principle of zero waste and will give you a chance to find out about various waste reducing, upcycling, recycling and other initiatives such as Repair Cafes (such as the one organised by Planet South Bank on 23rd April), our Wastebusters Fest on 17th June and how recycling works in York.

We are inviting the 18 projects receiving funding from the £30,000 community recycling fund set up by City of York Council so it will be a good opportunity to learn about some of those and how to get involved. While aimed at organisations working on the issue, the evening is open to everyone interested in reducing waste generated in York.

From 7:30pm there will be a co-ordinated discussion with brief introductions to the initiatives represented on the night. Hosted by One Planet York members Ivana and Sam from St Nicks, the OPY logoevening is a great way to meet others working towards a more sustainable and resilient city. If you’d like to talk about your project or topic at a future mingle, please email oneplanetyork@york.gov.uk or contact us.

Wednesdays are Pie Days at the Winning Post so you might like to have dinner there. The pub always offers some Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free choices.

Free entry – just turn up and please help spread the word

Travel & accessibility notes: The Winning Post is within easy walking distance of the city centre, on a main bus route (No. 11) and just 20 minutes walk from the train station.
