For the future – what to know before you buy a new home

Thu 23 Sep 2021 at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Phil and George

Joint online event with local architect Phil Bixby and George Robinson whose homes feature in York Open Eco Homes. Please book via Eventbrite.

For most of us, however committed we are to living sustainably, the thought of ripping our home apart to improve insulation or update heating is daunting. The chaos! But what about when we move homes – as homebuyers, do we think about our new home as what it will be in the future, and how it will be comfortable and affordable in ten, twenty years?

George Robinson and Phil Bixby both took the opportunity to make major improvements to old houses when moving into them, and share their experience of this process – and some thoughts on why “would benefit from some improvements” on the estate agents’ description can be a very good thing.

Ivana Jakubkova, also of St Nicks, joins them to outline the way in which York Community Energy can provide expertise and support with this process and help ensure you’re really moving into a future home. Finally, Alison Webb from the City of York Council will briefly talk about Home Upgrade Grants and other support the council can provide for retrofitters.

Free entry, booking essential via Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link
