Eco-Active Day: Woodland Improvements – Tree Planting
Sat 10 Feb 2018 at 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
St Nicks Environment Centre, Rawdon Avenue, York, YO10 3ST
After last month’s thinning works we will continue to develop the woodland structure by planting native tree species of the woodland understorey – the valuable area below the canopy but above the woodland floor. Lower growing trees and shrubs which are happy in semi-shade are the perfect complement to the increased light levels created from our thinning works. Species to plant include Holly, Hazel and Hawthorn which can grow outwards as much as upwards, creating refuge and food source for a range of our native wildlife.
You can be part of this exciting woodland improvement process by volunteering your time and energy on the day or by joining our regular volunteers. Tools and gloves will be provided.
