Do you enjoy being thrifty? Whether you do it primarily to save money or to prevent waste, join us in celebrating thrift! Nature doesn’t waste at all so it’s time for us to rethink it. Come along for the whole afternoon or just drop in to take part and be inspired by others’ efforts. We’ll have:

  • Make your own musical instruments with the Trashbang! Man Billy Hickling. Billy has 15 years experience as a performer and rehearsal director with the amazing STOMP show, and has been teaching people of all ages and abilities around the world to make music with everyday objects such as household rubbish, and even their own bodies. Come and have a go at making some funky rhythms!
  • Unostar will be selling her upcycled clothes and jewellery, she’ll talk you through how to upcycle and repair clothing too!
  • Woodwyrm, will be demonstrating how you can carve your own utensils as well as selling some items he’s pre-made.
  • Fix It Cafe June 2017

Fix It Cafe June 2017 – Neil mending love (lighting)

Fix It Cafe with our excellent repairers Neil and Peter who can turn their hands to anything but particularly excel at repairing small household electricals. Bring your broken items along and they’ll have a go. If your item may be a bit tricky, to increase the chances of success on the day please let us know what you will be bringing – we cannot guarantee that every item will be fixed.

  • Dr Bike – have your push bike checked by the wonderful folks of Ey-Up Cycling.
  • Tips on recycling and up-cycling in York – bring your own to share too!
  • Money saving ideas that will also cut waste
  • Treasure hunt on the nature reserve, can you solve the riddle and earn a (small!) prize?
  • Refreshments and more…

This page will be updated as more details of the day are confirmed so please do keep checking back. If you would like to get involved with hosting a workshop or being a “fixer” please do get in touch. The event is kindly funded by City of York Council’s Community Recycling Fund.
