Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

Fri 24 Jan 2020 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Scarcroft Orchard on the Green, Scarcroft Green, York

This workshop will take the mystery out of pruning and offer a guide to its art and science: why, how, when and where. You’ll learn about pruning for fruitfulness and tree health, and for shape and form. We will be working on open trees, not trained forms.

The course will be led by Laura Potts, a committed and knowledgeable organic gardener. She initiated the planting of a community orchard on Scarcroft Green, and large orchards at Beningborough Hall and The Retreat, after research into original varieties on those sites. Laura has taken fruit pruning courses at Askham Bryan and Ampleforth orchards, and has taught workshops at Scarcroft Allotment site and at St Nicks.

A handout will be provided, bring your own secateurs if you want to have a go. For more info please contact Laura on

Entry: £20/£15 concessions. Places are limited so please book ahead via Eventbrite or on 01904 411821.
